Legal innovation over the years

I recently came across a very well-written article that highlights some of the many technological innovations that have occurred in the practice of law over the past 100 years.  I thought it was very interesting to see how things have changed.  While most of the changes have been for the better, some might argue that others have not been so positive for the practice of law.

Adam Ferrell Elected as Solicitor General of Pierce County

Attorney Adam Ferrell was recently elected and took the oath of office as the Solicitor General for the State Court of Pierce County, Georgia.  The Solicitor General of Pierce County is a part-time elected position.  The primary responsibility of the Solicitor General is to investigate, charge, and prosecute misdemeanor violations of Georgia law and county ordinances that occur within Pierce County, Georgia.  In that regard, the Solicitor General works closely with law enforcement and other court personnel to ensure that such cases are handled efficiently and in a fair and equitable manner.

Because the position is a part-time position, Mr. Ferrell will continue to represent clients in his private practice in personal injury cases and family law cases, as well as other legal matters.

The Pierce County Solicitor’s Office is located in the Pierce County Courthouse at 3550 Highway 84W, Blackshear, Georgia 31516 (912-449-2049).

Adam Ferrell Named to Better Hometown Blackshear, Inc. Board of Directors

Attorney Adam Ferrell was recently named as a Director for the Better Hometown Blackshear, Inc. organization.  Ferrell is pleased to be given this opportunity to serve as part of this organization in downtown Blackshear with the other recently-named directors.

The Better Hometown Blackshear organization is a non-profit corporation that is a self-help community development program designed to improve the community’s quality of life through sound planning and implementation by community stakeholders.

Georgia Legal Food Frenzy 2012

I want to thank all of you who donated food to my law firm for this year’s “Georgia Legal Food Frenzy.”  The inaugural event was launched by Attorney General Sam Olens and coordinated by “City Representative” volunteers from the Young Lawyers Division of the State Bar of Georgia, and I was pleased to serve as one of those City Representatives.  The results have been nothing short of phenomenal.  Over 600,000 pounds of food to benefit the State’s seven regional food banks was raised by law firms and legal organizations across the State.  Because of your contributions, our firm was able to collect over 130 pounds of food for local food banks.  We hope to collect even more next year.  Thanks again for making this event a success!

Freedom is not free…

Memorial Day, observed on the last Monday in May, commemorates the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Services.  It originates from “Decoration Day,” which was first observed three years after the end of the Civil War and which served as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers.  In 1971, Congress made Memorial Day a federal holiday by official act.  In December 2000, Congress passed and the president signed into law “The National Moment of Remembrance Act.”  The National Moment of Remembrance encourages all Americans to pause wherever they are at 3 p.m. local time on Memorial Day for a minute of silence to remember and honor those who have died in service to the nation.

We should all be grateful for the sacrifices made by those who have served in the Armed Forces.  Not only have those individuals protected us from harm, but they have protected and secured the constitutional rights that we enjoy as citizens of this great country.  Among those are the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution that guarantee all citizens certain rights that are utilized in courts of law every day in both civil and criminal cases.  We should never take these rights and liberties for granted, and we should always remember those who have died to protect them.

Adam Ferrell named to “Super Lawyers Rising Stars”

Local attorney Adam Ferrell has been named to the Georgia Super Lawyers Rising Stars list for 2012.  Super Lawyers is a rating service of outstanding lawyers who have attained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.  The selection process is multi-phased and includes independent research, peer nominations, and peer evaluations.  No more than 2.5% of all lawyers in Georgia are selected to the Rising Stars list each year.

Mr. Ferrell is a graduate of Mercer University School of Law and was admitted to the Georgia bar in 2004.  His law office is located in downtown Blackshear, Georgia.  His firm focuses on plaintiff’s personal injury law and family law, as well as general practice and litigation.  He also presently serves as attorney for the City of Blackshear and prosecutor in the City’s municipal court.  He also serves as the elected Solicitor-General for Pierce County.  Mr. Ferrell has served as past president of the Waycross Bar Association, past president of the Waycross Jaycees, past chairman of the Satilla Health Foundation, and current president of the James E. Dye Foundation (formerly Waycross College Foundation).  Mr. Ferrell and his wife April (Morgan), along with their two children, reside in Pierce County.
